The US Internet population will grow to more than 207 million Internet users in 2005 that will be 29 percent of the world's total.  72% of all small business were on the Internet as of February, 1998 ‐ 60% had web sites.  As of January 2002, approximately 55 million American adults go online from work, up from 43 million in March 2000. Most of them make less than $50,000 annually and almost half didn't go to college (Intelliquest).  When it comes to increasing consumer awareness of brands, on ‐ line banner ads are just as effective as a 30 ‐ second TV commercial (Ipsos ‐ ASI)  By 2001, small businesses (1 ‐ 99 employees) will spend in upwards of $22 billion to either gain an Internet presence or improve their existing efforts. This number is up from $12 billion in 2000 (Activemedia Research).  Small and home ‐ based business' Internet usage is at approx. 81%, this is an increase from only 26% usage in 1996. It is estimated to reach almost 95% by the year 2004 (IDC Research).  Total U.S. business Information Technology (IT) expenditures for 2000 are $119.1 billion and will reach $285 billion by the year 2003.
