The overall beer market of US is approximately
$101 billion in 2009, selling 205.676 million barrels
of beer. However, the beer market was down by
2.2% in 2009 due to the recession. The beer sales
were down by 2.7% by volume in the first half of
2010.
Craft Beer Industry
The craft beer industry is defined by four distinct
markets: brewpubs, microbreweries, regional craft
breweries, and contract brewing companies. The
craft brewing industry grew by 9% in volume and
12% by retail dollars.
The domestic craft beer sales in 2009 were
9,115,635 barrels compared to 8,501,713 barrels in
2008.
